About Us

I’m Darien. I built the first Seaskate in my garage because I needed it! Like, this was AN EMERGENCY.

Surfing for 30 years and still calling myself “intermediate” was simply unacceptable! Think of it.. What other activity in the whole world… 💀 Anywho, the first Seaskate was crammed together in 2018 on a piece of wood that came with my house.

I design and build stuff. Every day. Because I love it! If I had a zillion dollars — I would do the same thing! I wanted something to simulate and practice surfing.

Surfboards are 3-dimensional. They do not wheelbite. They also do not pivot at the nose.

I started with a litany of jank industrial caster parts, hand-bent springs — absolute garbage. Couldn’t make it 2 car-lengths without being gassed. I was also on inline skate wheels which immediately cheese-grated themselves. Eventually I taught myself 3D Modeling, then 3D Printing, then broke a bunch more stuff.

I worked quietly, in secret. No photos. Only showed a couple of Venezuelans TBH. Somebody was gonna figure this out — might as well be me. Years went by. I still didn’t have something even decent enough to show anyone. I was getting into my 40’s and still throwing myself down hills with no brakes like an idiot.

Needless to say time was of the essence. Finally I just said F it and went on Kickstarter. You only need an idea for a business and I was way past that — I had a piece of crap!

We raised $21k in one day, that was pretty sweet, and then the rest of the campaign was pretty modest, which is understandable, as I didn’t even have a good product :P But it went just well enough for me to keep going... The best part was: I found the Wizard. (Bob, President of Freebord) — or rather, he found me. He is the reason this thing is so beautiful (and bulletproof) today.

Surfing has been good to me for 36y.

This is my contribution.

My surf improved more riding this thing for just minutes than it did in my first 30 years in the water. The math is exponential. Be that guy, who’s all over the beach.
